Mulberries aren’t something you’ll find in the grocery store. They spoil within in a day. They’re soft and don’t travel well. They bleed dark purple and stain the fingers. I had never had one before moving to Austin!
But here, there’s plenty of opportunities to taste them. Mulberry season starts late April and runs through May. Our girls love to ride on the back of the cargo bike and spot trees to stop at. Once we’re looking, they’re all over- especially alongside creeks like Peace Park, Reed Park or the Boggy Creek trail.
Mulberries are rich in vitamin C, iron, and antioxidants- so it’s a good healthy snack as well as a foraging adventure.
